ARTWORK

Jacabo’s surrealist artistry defies convention, blending the eerie with the ethereal in a way that is both hypnotic and unsettling. His charcoal drawings of nude women capture raw, unfiltered emotion—each figure shrouded in shadow and ambiguity, exuding vulnerability yet commanding presence. The delicate strokes of charcoal create ghostly contours, as if the figures exist in a liminal space between dream and memory.
Equally mesmerizing are Jacabo’s whimsically bizarre oil on canvas paintings, where nightmares twist into surreal visions. Winged nymphs hover in chaotic landscapes, suspended between worlds, their expressions caught between bliss and despair. The colors are vivid, almost hallucinatory, as dreamlike creatures emerge from tangled compositions, seemingly drawn from the depths of a subconscious that refuses to conform to logic. Every brushstroke tells a fragmented story—one part folklore, one part fever dream.
Jacabo’s work challenges perception, embracing the strange and the symbolic. His figures are never simply subjects; they are conduits for emotional unease and subconscious exploration. Whether in charcoal or oil, his creations demand contemplation, forcing the viewer to linger, question, and lose themselves in their surreal allure.

Jacabo was born in Havana, Cuba, but immigrated to the United States in the early 1950s, later becoming a citizen in Miami at a young age. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Miami in the 1970s, he set aside his dream of becoming a painter, spending nearly four decades as a graphic designer in commercial art to support his family.
Everything changed with the passing of his mother—a lifelong admirer of his childhood works, who had kept one of his paintings displayed in her home until her final days. Her loss shook Jacabo awake, reigniting the passion he had abandoned. In 2011, he poured years of suppressed creativity and emotion into his debut collection, Lost Memories—an exhaustive purge of feeling, raw and unfiltered.

Working from his home studio, Jacabo seeks to redefine the movement—blending tradition with a fresh perspective, with his Whimsically Bizarre Surrealistic paintings and charcoal drawings. His artistic vision is profoundly shaped by the masterful distortions and eerie symbolism of Hieronymus Bosch, Francis Bacon, and Giuseppe Arcimboldo, whose influences pulse through his work.
Jacabo has exhibited in
